Can I use a bass amp with my electric guitar?

Technically, you could use a bass amp for the Beginner to Kickass course, and nothing horrible will happen. The amp isn’t going to explode. But it’s not ideal.

Bass amps are meant to accentuate the frequency range of a bass guitar, while guitar amps are designed to do the same for a guitar. Because of that, your guitar will sound kind of flat and dead through a bass amp, and you won’t get that killer, sparkly guitar sound that guitar amps produce.

Also, most guitar amps these days come with built-in overdrive/distortion sounds, and sometimes other effects. That’s much less common with bass amps.

So if you can, I highly recommend picking up a beginner guitar amp that has good reviews.
